Stormont Vail Health Robotics Program Leads the Way in Surgical Innovation

Stormont Vail Health is proud to announce major advancements in its Robotics Program, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in robotic-assisted surgery. Since launching the program in 2018 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, the health system has combined cutting-edge technology with the expertise of more than 20 highly-trained surgeons and over 45 Surgical Care and support team members.

Stormont Vail is now:

  • The only hospital in Topeka offering 24/7 access to the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system
  • Home to Topeka’s first-ever da Vinci 5 procedure
  • The first health system in Topeka to offer the Ion robotic-assisted bronchoscopy system for lung nodule biopsy and diagnosis

“What really matters to the patient is that we’re going to be able to provide more advanced surgery through minimally invasive techniques,” said Dr. Wael Khreiss, Executive Medical Director and Association Physician, Stormont Vail Surgical Services. “This improves patient care and safety. This improves patient outcomes.”

The Robotics Program integrates early diagnosis tools, CT scanning in the OR, and Ultrasound to support precision and faster recovery. These innovations ensure patients across Kansas have access to world-class surgical care without the need to travel far.
